HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Boy oh boy, time sure does fly when you are havin’ fun!   I hope you all had a good Christmas.  I know I sure did!  I was a real good boy all year long, so I got lots of new toys and other nice things for presents!  Mom would try and hide them from me, but I could smell them through the store bags and I would try to get them before Christmas morning.

We are in a place my mom says is called Yuma, Arizona.  It’s great here, and it never rains!  I love to go hiking with Rick, who is my dad type of person.   We hike for hours in the desert and in the mountains.  I’ve learned about cactus and how they can really hurt you if you’re not careful.  They have long picky type of needles on them that can stick deep in your skin and hurt like anything!

There are all kinds of different critters that live in the desert.   Some of them you don’t see very often, but you can hear them in the night.  Like the one I hear at night that sounds kind of like me, mom says they are called coyotes.   We’ve seen mountain lions too.  One time we were on a long desert trip and saw a herd of wild burros.  Burros look kind of like small, fuzzy horses.

One time we were hiking up a mountain, and I smelled something very interesting under a rock, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not get that rock to move.  Rick came along and carefully picked the rock up for me, and there was a nest of tiny baby lizards, all curled up.  We put the rock back down so they would be safe.

February 2006 - Valentine Issue

Hey Everybody, It’s me – Spinner!

Can you smell it!!  Love is in the Air!  It’s almost spring and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!   Have you picked your favorite Valentine yet?

My mom person tells me that there are a lot of different kinds of love.  There’s the kind of love you have for your Mom and Dad, your Grandmas and Grandpas, your sisters and brothers, your best buds that you run around with and play with, maybe you have a favorite teacher kind of person or other people that help take care of you. . .then of course there is that very special someone that makes your heart beat really fast and your tail wag so fast, your whole body goes to wagging too!

  March 2006                                              Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know what a “Flying Tomato” is?   My mom person went crazy about a “Flying Tomato” the last few weeks!   It seemed to have something to do about what she called the “Winter Olympics”.   She was watching the television almost all the time, and it was hard to get her to take me out for walks!   She kept talking about things like “snow boarding”, ‘skiing”, “ice skating”,"bobsledding” and all kinds of other words I can’t remember.  She got excited a lot, clapped a lot and even screamed a couple of times!!   She said she wanted the USA (she said that is our Country) to get lots of medals made of gold, silver or bronze, whatever those things are.

Finally, on one of the days when I was trying to get her to play with me, she said she was sorry for not paying much attention to me. All of a sudden she picked me up and gave me a big hug and a nice pat and said that she thought it would be good to have a “Doggy Olympics:”  She said that they could have contests to see who could run fastest, jump the highest, find the most bones, do the most tricks and all kinds of other neat things.  Sounds kind of like fun to me.  I have a lot of energy.  I’ll bet I could make the “team!”

Later that day, Mom and Rick took me out for a long, long hike.  They said it was to burn off some of the energy I’d saved up all of the days of the “Winter Olympics”.  We went way across the desert and explored some new places.  We were gone for a long time.  Rick ran with me and we climbed a couple of foothills.  We had such a nice time.   I ran and ran, Mom said it was like I was trying to be an “Olympian!”  Mom and Rick laughed at me.

Finally, we started for home.  Boy was I tired, I finally lay down to take a bit of a rest.  I nearly fell right to sleep in the middle of the trail.  Rick picked me up and carried me most of the rest of the way home  What a nice day it had been. . . ..(yawn...). . .really worth waiting for. . .while my mom person watched the. . .  . O … lym…..pics….   (yawn).   Hmmm .I still don’t know what. . . a flying. …tomato is. .  . . . . . . .ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I have a new friend here at my home in Arizona.  Her name is Snowy.  She is a white Lab, and a very good friend.  Every night our people take us out for a walk around the neighborhood, where we can see where all of our other dog friends live.

I like my life in the desert, sure beats the heck out of ice and snow!

You all stay safe and ‘till next time –

Your Bud Spinner

I’ve been very lucky to have two special “ladies” in my life.  My first love is a beautiful, Sheltie named Bailey.  She belongs to my Mom person’s human daughter, Terralynn.  I love her still. . and dream of her often.  She lives in Michigan, so I only get to see her a little bit each summer.   I met another beautiful lady named Maggie, just like my Mom person’s name.  She’s a gorgeous Lhasa Apso and is the same colors as I am!  She’s from Kentucky and belongs to a man named Bill.  We spent a good deal of time together last summer, running and playing in the grass around the RV park where we were staying.  When it rained, mud puddles would be left in the driveways.. .we both loved to run through the mud. . .and sometimes we would lay right down in it!  It felt so good and Maggie looked so cute with mud all over her nose. . .(sigh. . . .)!  We would both get into trouble with our people . . . and end up needing baths.  Yuk!!   I miss Maggie and I hope someday our paths might cross again.

Anyway, I hope you all find lots of love in the world.  My Mom person tells me that if you have love – you have everything!  A life without some kind of love is very sad and lonely.  I’m one lucky dog as just about everyone in my life loves me.  Mom says that I am a very spoiled pup. She’s probably right!

Everybody take care and remember to show someone you love them at least once a day!

‘Til next month, I’ll be movin’ on down the road…..

Your bud,

Spinner
